Genealogy Research

very old books on a bookshelf

Curious who came before you? Tell us what you want to learn and what you already know, and we’ll build a plan around it, so your research hours go toward new discoveries. We help families from anywhere, all online. We focus on U.S. records, and we search online archives in other countries when your trail leads overseas.

You could discover:

  • Your family ancestry, traced back as far as the records allow

  • Answers to a family history story, legend, or mystery

  • Fresh angles on a genealogical “brick wall” that has stopped your own search

  • A multi-generation family tree

  • Details of your ancestors’ lives, from military pension applications to immigration and land records, newspapers, and more

Every project includes:

  • A kickoff meeting to talk about what you want to learn and what you already have

  • A professionally written PDF report, organized by person and family, with everything we found: the searches we performed (including any that turned up nothing), citations for every record, and images of the records, articles and documents we located. This document will be formatted to be printed or shared.

  • A closing call to walk you through what we found.

Choose the project that fits your question. Please note that genealogy research has a 4-hour minimum fee that is non-refundable after work begins.

The Spark: 4 hours, $300

Our starter project, built around your main question. It’s perfect for finding out how much information is out there on an ancestor before a larger project, or for a focused search for specific information.

We research the following, at a minimum, with more if time permits:

  • Census records

  • Birth, marriage and death records

  • Information on spouses and children

The Journey: 10 hours, $750

A fuller picture of one family or person through more in-depth research

We research the following, at a minimum, with more if time permits:

  • Everything in The Spark, plus:

  • Military service records and pension applications

  • Newspaper articles

  • School photographs and other sources that show how your ancestors lived

  • More family members or generations, as time allows

The Voyage: 20 hours, $1,500

Our most thorough standard project. It stretches across as many generations as the records allow, with extra digging on the hard-to-find ancestors.

We research the following, at a minimum, with more if time permits:

  • Everything in The Journey, plus:

  • A research plan designed with you before we begin

  • Immigration and land records

  • Church and other vital record archives

  • As many generations as the records allow

  • Extra research on the hard-to-find ancestors

The Trailblazer: custom estimate

For a bigger question than 20 hours can answer. We’ll talk about what you want to learn and what you already have, then send you a custom estimate built around your goals.

We research the following, at a minimum, with more if time permits:

  • Everything in The Voyage, built around your goals

  • Weekly progress updates by email while the project is active

  • Research across multiple family lines

  • On-site research at the National Archives or cemeteries, if your question needs it

  • A review of strong DNA matches, if you have them, to identify a common ancestor

  • Heirloom Keepsake Option. Your finished report can be professionally printed, bound, and shipped to you as a family keepsake. You can choose this option up front or after you’ve seen your finished report. We will develop a custom estimate for the printing, binding, and shipping with projected delivery date for the book(s) based on its size.
